I asked Berlyn this in another thread but thought I would ask it generally as well. Despite my stupidly not labeling anything when I took my stove apart, I put it back together with no problems. Except for one little item... I cannot figure out how to hook up that spring that attaches to the underside of the folding cover. Can anyone tell me where the other end of the spring goes?

Cindy,
Hubby has another week offshore, so I can't ask him. I looked throught the pics and don't have one with that.
I looked in my manual and there is no diagram or instructions for placement of the springs, just for nuts and bolts. No spring mentioned, but yes there is one. That's why this is hubby's department.
One of the others will be able to help.
What model do you have??

My BZ actually has 2 springs. One (about 5/8" diam.) hooks to a bracket that is attached to the cover. This larger spring hooks to a smaller spring (3/8" diam.). The smaller spring then hooks to a tab/bracket under the cook top. The tab/bracket is inbetween the back burner and the front left burner, to the left of the pilot lights.
Hope this helps. I can take and send pics if you need.

Thanks ladies.
Berlyn, I have a Model B. It looks just like yours in the pics.
Ann, I thought there might be someplace to attach that spring to the underside of the cooktop (made logical sense to me) but my unit doesn't appear to have anything.

Annnt,
I e-mailed you but am not sure if it went through. I would appreciate it if you sent me those photo's on where to attach the springs for the folding top. That is where I am at in my restoration project.
I have a Model B but the springs you described are on her.
Thank you,
Gasseous

I do not have any springs present on my b for the folding top. I am nowhere on cleaning/restoring cause I can't get it to stay up. I put one on as described elsewhere ont he board, an archived post, but after a short while the top flopped back down. The porcelain on the top's front edge then is getting too much pressure on it! So now I just have left it folded down while we work on another more critical part of our home.
I would just take off the tip and simplify things but the screws are rusted.
Can someone post the measurements/where to find of the missing spring(s)?? Thanks so much!

Hi Gasseous-
Thanks for the tip on the service door spring size a while back. I still haven't fixed mine, though now I know what spring to buy if I can't shorten my too long ones properly!
We have the same model, I think (15-B) & I know where the spring for the fold down top goes. Where it attaches on the top is pretty apparent on mine as it is a metal tab with a hole on the end around the middle of the back section. The other end attaches inside the top on the main pilot assembly. Just remove the back burner grate & drip pan & the ones on the left front burner. If you look at the pilot assembly you will see a small hole on the bracket that attaches to the chrome top of your stove (it is just behind the arm the 3 way pilot drops down from). Let me know if my description isn't enough & I can try to get some pictures of this.
Now, what the size of that spring is, is a mystery to me. I tried to replace mine, as all I had left of the last one on mine was part of it, but the spring I purchased was too long. I shortened it several times before I stopped, so if you figure out exactly what will work there--or someone elso on here knows--please let me know! Right now I have the top on, but it is held up by a thick movers rubber band so I can't actually use it for the intended purpose.

Argghh! Okay, this is my third try to respond to this topic by posting a photo.
If this doesn't work, I give up.

The first shot is obvious: you can see how the back of the spring is attached to the bracket on the back edge of the foldding top.
Hopefully, in the second photo, you can see how the front end of the spring is attached to a hole in the bent down left edge of the pilot light heat shield, directly above the pilot light (where the three flash tubes converge.
Thanks to Mark 'Lowracer', this old dog just learned a new trick.
